OKI helps Save the Children charity ‘Rewrite the Future’

Almost £250,000 donated over 16-year partnership

As part of its corporate responsibility programme, OKI Printing Solutions Europe is supporting the Save the Children charity’s global ‘Rewrite the Future’ campaign, which focuses on securing quality education for millions of children out of school due to conflict and violence.

OKI adopted Save the Children as its corporate charity in 1994 and over the past 16 years has donated nearly £250,000, including support from its customers through initiatives such as the company’s consumables recycling programme.

This long-standing partnership has culminated in support for ‘Rewrite the Future’, launched three years ago to help children whose education has been disrupted or who miss out entirely as a result of humanitarian disasters.

“Save the Children relies on the generosity of our corporate supporters to provide reliable and ongoing funding,” said Douglas Rouse, director of corporate partnerships. ”OKI Printing Solutions’ support is helping us get conflict-affected children into school – including those who otherwise would not have the opportunity of education – and it ensures they receive a better quality of education through the provision of trained teachers, reasonable class sizes, appropriate equipment and curricula.

“In just a short period the ‘Rewrite the Future’ campaign has ensured that one million children have gained access to schooling for the first time and a further 10.6m are benefiting from improved education programmes.”

“We are delighted to have been associated over so many years with a charity which shares many of our core values,” said Pamela Ghosal, marketing and communications manager, EMEA, OKI Printing Solutions. ”At OKI, we recognise that as a business we can play an important role in making the world a better place for children. As a result, our partnership with Save the Children continues to help create real and lasting change in the lives of vulnerable young people.

“The current ‘Rewrite the Future’ education programme in particular is a powerful initiative which is already breaking the cycle of poverty for many children affected by conflict, giving them new opportunities and hope for the future.”

    Printerland polishes up the board

Two long-serving reseller staff rewarded with directorships

Cheshire reseller Printerland has awarded directorships to two staff as a result of their hard work and achievement through the recession.

Roger Turner, former sales manager and a staff member for 10 years, has been promoted to the position of sales and marketing director.

Turner is being joined on the Printerland board by Karen Pearson, who has been with the company for 15 years. Accounts manager Pearson has taken on the role of financial director.

“When I started working for Printerland, we were turning over £120,000 and now our turnover has soared to £20m. I am over the moon that my hard work has been recognised and my dedication has paid off,” Pearson said.

Printerland managing director Graham Vickers said that a Printerland employee had never before been promoted to director level.

“Turner and Pearson have earned their titles,” Vickers said. “This will give them a deserved credibility when dealing with considerably large accounts. I have been very fortunate that our talent has allowed me to promote from within rather than look outside.”

Konica Minolta Hailed For Ink Cartridge Recycling

Konica Minolta Hailed For Ink Cartridge Recycling

Fans of Konica printers and their range of printer ink – including ink cartridges and toner cartridges – may be interested to know that it won the 2009 Evergreen Award from the US General Services Administration (GSA) in the Technologies and Electronics category.

The 12th annual award was handed over because of Konica Minolta‘s commitment to green initiatives, including efforts to maximise efficiency and to minimise its environmental impact.

Konica‘s Clean Planet Program in the United States aims to reduce the environmental impact of its products throughout their lifecycle by recycling customers’ toner cartridges and bottles at specific centres.

Regional commissioner Linda Chero said: “These companies have done an outstanding job in making environmentally-friendly options available to GSA client agencies and are committed to demonstrating that green products are a viable option for customers.”

This news comes soon after a useful guide included on the internet offered up some sensible knowledge about how to avoid paying through the nose for printer ink and getting the most of what is now an essential bit of kit in most homes.

Lexmark Conduct Survey Of Printer Usage

Lexmark have released a new study detailing the printing habits of European professionals and home users. Conducted on the ink cartridge manufacturer’s behalf by market research company Information Resources, Inc (ICI) the study reveals that 58% of Europeans print mostly in black. Further, 74% of Europeans print between 0-30 pages weekly.

The study offers assurance for people concerned their printing habits are abnormal. For example, 1% of recipients in the 5 European nations surveyed print entirely in colour. This 1 percentile may feel their colour cartridge habits make them unique. Alternately, they may choose to match the printing habits of most Europeans by replacing their colour cartridges with black cartridges.

Lexmark also reveals that 38% of professionals at work print more than 100 pages weekly. Other white collar Europeans may be concerned this makes them appear less productive than their print-happy colleagues, and print more frequently. 2% of white collar Europeans at work print less than 10 pages weekly. These people may find themselves compensating for their statistical inadequacy by printing documents several times.
