Sale Sharks fought through freezing conditions to win 21 – 17 against Harlequins at Edgeley Park, helping the Sharks remain hopeful for the Heineken Cup Quarter Finals.

In difficult conditions, both teams went into the game with a fighting attitude and it was a credit to see both teams trying to play quality rugby.

An early try from Sisaro Koyamaibole saw Sale Sharks take a comfortable early lead.

After a period of intense pressure from a tough Harlequin’s side, Eifion Roberts scored an outstanding try, converted by Charlie Hodgson from in front of the sticks.

Kingsley Jones rewarded Nick Macleod with Man of the Match for his strong full back performance, which was difficult in the icy conditions!

Jones commented, “We came out with a win which I’m really pleased with! The players’ performance was fantastic in the second half, particularly the way they dug in and fought hard in the freezing conditions. It was a tough game though – Quins put on a good team effort as well.”

With back to back Heineken Cup victories, Sale Sharks sit in second place with 13 points in Pool 5, one point off first place. Jones added, “I think we’re in a great position for The Cup. In the table, we’re as good as any team in Europe. Winning three games and losing one is great effort.”

“I told the lads before the game today that getting out of the Pool stages in the Heineken Cup is one of the hardest things you do in your career. You don’t get many opportunities get out of the group. Of course, it’s going to be very difficult. The Blues are a great side and Toulouse goes without saying! But, we are in a great position and I can’t ask any more from the players.”
