Sale Sharks grow beards for charity

Sale Sharks

Fifteen Sale Sharks players and staff have started growing beards for the NSPCC and hope to raise £1000 with your help!

Several Sharks started growing their beards in October and will not shave until Christmas Day 09, when each player will shave a ‘comedy beard’ and supporters will decide their favourite from the players at the Harlequins on 1st January 2010, kick off 5.30PM, at Edgeley Park.

Pictures of the Sharks players and staff will be put on the Sale Sharks website on New Years Day for supporters to vote online for their favourite ‘comedy beard’.

So far, Sale Sharks have raised £165 (17%) of their £1,000 target and have just over a month left to raise the rest of the money. Their half way progress can been seen in these pictures and at www.justgiving.com/sharksbeard4santa. As you can see, there are going to be some seriously long and hairy beards on New Years Day!!

Although growing a beard is not much of a sacrifice in comparison to running a marathon etc, the strain on relationships is already taking its toll and there has been plenty of itching so please get behind the Sharks and support a great charity at a particularly tough time of year. Their target is to raise £1000 for the NSPCC so please donate anything you can no matter how small it all makes a difference!

Very hairy flankers, David Tait and Alex Shaw, have organised this charitable cause, stating, “The NSPCC is a really worthy cause, especially at Christmas time. I am really pushing for us to raise £1000 for this charity.

“We’ve had a lot of stick from our team mates, and our partner’s aren’t over the moon with our new rugged look, as well as being named Rolf Harris, but this is nothing when you consider what this money will do to help children. I’m just going to have to make sure that I shave my beard on Christmas day into something funny to out-do everyone else’s and get more people to increase donations. No matter how small it is, I really hope people can help us reach our target and donate.”

The NSPCC’s purpose is to end cruelty to children and our vision is of a Society where all children are loved, valued and able to fulfil their potential. Every day, thousands of children and young people need to talk to ChildLine about a problem they face, while hundreds of caring adults call the NSPCC Helpline, worried about a child’s safety.

Making a donation couldn’t be easier! Contribute to this worthy cause at www.justgiving.com/sharksbeard4santa. Donating online is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, Just Giving send your money directly to the NSPCC and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it is the most efficient way to donate, we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
