Next gen iPhone could call police if stolen

April 9th, 2009 Posted in Industry News

An owner of the next gen iPhone, who finds that it has been stolen, could find that a new feature could save them a lot of hassle.

Apple is working on an application that will call the police if the device is stolen and tell them exactly where it is currently located.

The system works on the principle that if the iPhone feels an unusual amount of force, i.e. like somebody snatching it, the device would automatically go into prevention mode.

This is an actual patent that has been filed by Apple and it would seem suitable for a device like the iPhone, but it is still just a patent.
