Bluetooth 3.0 to boost speeds and decrease drops

April 14th, 2009 Posted in General, Industry News

Bluetooth 3.0 is set to be unveiled on 21st April, and the word on web street is that it’ll be upping its speed to Wi-Fi rivalling levels and cutting out those irritating disconnects.

According to Phone Scoop, Bluetooth 3.0 will be operating at speeds that “allow it to transfer large video files, music collections and photo libraries” in a matter of seconds. Far more like Wi-Fi, in other words.

Bluetooth 3.0 will also feature something called Enhanced Power Control (EPC), which reduces the likelihood of you suffering a Bluetooth disconnect when you put your mobile in your pocket or bag.

This comes hot on the heels of the news that Wi-Fi is seeking to take a big ol’ swipe at Bluetooth by allowing device-to-device connectivity by 2010.
