Top dog for wildlife photo prize
A teenager has won a trip to an African game reserve for her photograph of a pet dog.
Ruth Williams, 16, from Ysgol Botwnnog School, Pwllheli, Gwynedd, won first prize in a schools wildlife photography competition.
It was selected from 720 photos entered in the contest for secondary schools.
The judges said her photo of dog Bes “demonstrated an excellent use of colour and was thoughtfully composed, artistic and vibrant”.
The winter term competition was organised by Oki, a company that makes colour printers, and the conservation charity Born Free Foundation and Ruth, and a co-winner from a school in Scotland, will visit the Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa in May.
Ruth has also won a printer for her school and the opportunity to present one to an African school based close to the reserve.
